All around Ursuline Academy’s middle school, students are preparing for Christmas.  People are exchanging gifts, singing carols, baking treats, and decorating their homes in anticipation of the big day.

Sixth grader, Tyler Plumsky-Adams, explains how she celebrates the holiday with her family.  “Every Christmas Eve we go to my Aunt Lindsey’s house for a party.  We play White Elephant and eat a Christmas feast.”

Seventh grader, Sarah Whalen, also visits family for Christmas.  Sarah says, “I visit my family in Allentown and we do a Secret Santa.”  She also talked about her family’s decorating traditions.  “We decorate our tree earlier in December, but we wait until Christmas Eve to add the tinsel.”

Eighth grade student, Abby Garcia, also talked about traditions that take place both and Christmas and Christmas Eve.  Abby said, “On Christmas Eve, we have a party with family and friends.  On Christmas day, we wait for our grandparents, aunts, and uncles to get there before we can open presents.  We usually eat brunch together.”

Ursuline families have many similarities in the way they celebrate the Christmas holiday.  However, it is the small differences that make each individual family special.
